Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics: Loreto College Open Book Platform
Loreto College Academic Press (LCAP) is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics. We ensure that every manuscript is evaluated with integrity, impartiality, and professionalism. Our policies are aligned with the core principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to promote a culture of transparency and scholarly rigor.
- Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are the foundation of our academic community. In submitting to the Open Book Platform, authors commit to:
- Originality & Accuracy: Ensuring all work is original and that data is genuine, verifiable, and honestly presented.
- Disclosure: Transparently declaring any financial, personal, or institutional conflicts of interest.
- Exclusivity: Confirming that the manuscript is not under consideration by any other publisher.
- Co-Authorship: Ensuring all listed authors have made significant contributions and have collectively approved the final version.
- Post-Publication Integrity: Promptly notifying the Press if significant errors are discovered after the book has been launched online.
- Responsibilities of Editors
Our Editorial Board acts as the guardian of the platform’s academic quality. Editors are responsible for:
- Merit-Based Decisions: Evaluating manuscripts based solely on academic quality, originality, and relevance, without regard to the author's background.
- Confidentiality: Protecting the intellectual property of authors by maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the review process.
- Conflict Management: Recusing themselves from decisions where a personal or professional conflict of interest exists.
- Ethical Oversight: Leading investigations into potential misconduct and ensuring the peer-review process remains fair and unbiased.
- Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers provide the expert validation necessary for high-level scholarship. They are expected to:
- Constructive Feedback: Provide objective, timely, and detailed reports to help authors improve their work.
- Confidentiality: Treating all manuscripts as privileged documents and avoiding the use of unpublished data for personal gain.
- Integrity: Disclosing any potential conflicts of interest immediately and alerting the editor if they suspect any ethical violations, such as plagiarism or data fabrication.
- Handling Research Misconduct
LCAP takes allegations of ethical breaches seriously. This includes plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and undisclosed conflicts of interest.
Our Investigative Process: Following COPE guidelines, the Press will conduct a thorough and confidential investigation into any allegation of misconduct.
Possible Actions: If misconduct is confirmed, LCAP may take the following actions:
- Rejection: Immediate removal of the manuscript from the publication pipeline.
- Retraction: Issuing a formal retraction notice for works already published on the platform.
- Institutional Notification: Reporting the incident to the author’s home institution or funding body.
- Sanctions: Restricting the author from future submissions to the Loreto College Academic Press.
- Ethical Governance
By following the COPE Flowcharts, we ensure that every ethical concern—from authorship disputes to suspected plagiarism—is handled through a standardized, transparent, and fair process. Our goal is to protect the integrity of the Loreto College academic legacy and the global scholarly community.
