Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process: Loreto College Open Book Platform
Loreto College Academic Press (LCAP) employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process for all its publications. This ensures that every book, monograph, and chapter hosted on our Open Book Platform meets the highest standards of scholarly quality, originality, and academic integrity. To maintain objectivity, both author and reviewer identities remain strictly confidential throughout the evaluation.
Stages of the Review Process
- Initial Editorial Screening
Every submitted manuscript or book proposal first undergoes a desk review by the Editorial Team to determine:
- Institutional Alignment: Does the work reflect the academic mission and values of Loreto College?
- Scope & Quality: Is the subject matter relevant to our active series and does it meet basic academic standards?
- Technical Compliance: Has the author followed the formatting and ethical guidelines?
Manuscripts that do not pass this stage are returned to the author, while suitable works proceed to formal review.
- Double-Blind Peer Evaluation
Selected manuscripts are assigned to a minimum of two independent experts in the relevant field. Reviewers evaluate the work based on:
- Originality: Does the book offer new insights or a fresh perspective to the existing literature?
- Scholarly Rigour: Is the methodology sound and the argumentation well-supported by evidence?
- Clarity & Structure: Is the narrative coherent and accessible to its intended audience?
- Ethical Soundness: Does the research comply with professional and ethical standards?
- Reviewer Recommendations
Reviewers submit a detailed report concluding with one of the following recommendations:
- Accept as is: The manuscript is ready for production.
- Minor Revisions: Small changes are required before final approval.
- Major Revisions: Significant restructuring or further research is needed.
- Resubmit for Review: The revised work must undergo a second full round of peer review.
- Reject: The work does not meet the necessary criteria for publication.
Decision and Revision
The final decision rests with the Editorial Board, guided by the reviewers' expertise. If revisions are required:
- Response Document: Authors must submit the revised manuscript along with a "Response to Reviewers" document detailing how each point of feedback was addressed.
- Re-Evaluation: The Editor may consult the original reviewers to confirm that the concerns have been successfully resolved.
Final Acceptance and Production
Upon final acceptance, the manuscript enters the production phase, which includes:
- Professional Copyediting: Refining language and ensuring stylistic consistency.
- Layout & Design: Typesetting for digital (PDF, EPUB, HTML) and print-on-demand formats.
- Metadata Registration: Assignment of ISBNs and DOIs for global discoverability.
Ethical Standards for Reviewers
Reviewers are expected to uphold the integrity of the platform by:
- Maintaining Confidentiality: Treating the manuscript as a privileged document.
- Disclosing Conflicts: Declining any assignment where a personal or professional relationship might influence their judgment.
- Constructive Feedback: Providing honest, unbiased, and helpful critiques that assist authors in improving their scholarship.
- Reporting Misconduct: Alerting the Editor to any suspicions of plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical research practices.
