Abstract

The history of ancient India is a story of constant interaction between material creativity and linguistic refinement, but most importantly, religious ties. This paper will make a comparative study of two cultural peaks which will illuminate the similarities and differences between these two artistic zeniths: the Harappans communicated through symbols and form, while the Guptas expressed ideas through language and text, yet both expressed values of order, balance, and divinity through their artistic media, which linguistically moved from the symbolic Harappan script to the refined Sanskrit of the Gupta era, both of them being the civilization continuum.
